Center Information

The Mission of the Drepung Gomang Institute is to

Offer the Louisville community an opportunity to study and practice Tibetan Buddhist traditions and philosophy under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama,

Support the life and work of our Sister Organization, the Drepung Gomang  Monastery,

Foster interfaith dialogue, interaction between cultures, and teachings on compassion and peace-making,

Help preserve the endangered Tibetan culture

Through weekly dharma teachings, meditation, special ceremonies and events, DGI provides its members and visitors an opportunity to learn about Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, practice and culture firsthand.  In addition our Geshes (Tibetan Buddhist teachers) and center members participate regularly in interfaith events that foster peace and compassion.

While DGI primarily serves the Louisville area, our Geshes will travel to nearby cities as requested.  They are also happy to speak to interested people at schools and other organizations.

DGI is the U.S. sister organization of the Drepung Gomang Monastery in southern India (please click here for letter of support). Each year we are host to the Drepung Gomang Monastery's Sacred Arts Tour which travels around the country sharing teachings on compassion, Tibetan Buddhism and the richness of the Tibetan cultural tradition.

DGI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All teachings given by the monks are offered free.  The Center and the resident Geshes are supported by the kind donations of members, visitors, volunteers, and local benefactors. All donations are tax deductible.
