DGI’s mission is to provide individuals with an interest in Tibetan philosophy and culture to experience it firsthand. DGI had its beginning in 2000 with one monk and has since grown to now having four monks that offer teachings on authentic Buddhism, meditation, Tibetan culture, and the Tibetan language. In addition, the monks also present at local schools, universities, interfaith activities, and other events. While the monks’ primary focus is in the Louisville area, they also offer teachings in the surrounding community and travel throughout the country for special events. Currently DGI offers meditation sessions as well as dharma teachings.

     DGI is also a sister organization of the Drepung Gomang Monastery in India (please click here for letter of support). As a sister organization, DGI has as it's goal the establishment of a center for Drepung Gomang Monastery in the United States. The purpose of this center will be to:

1. To help preserve the endangered Tibetan culture that leads a fragile existence in communities of exiled refugees living in India and Nepal, as well as Tibetan people struggling under Chinese occupation.

2. To offer the larger communities of Louisville, Kentucky and of the U.S. the opportunity to study and practice Tibetan Buddhist traditions and philosophy.

3. To foster interfaith dialogue and interaction between cultures, both for the resident monks and for those involved in DGI.

4. To offer the Western community the opportunity to learn Buddhist philosophy and practice, and facilitate the interaction between cultures and religious traditions by invitng Buddhist scholars and teachers from the monastery through a culture exchage program. 

     DGI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All teachings given by the monks are offered free of cost to people in the community and abroad. DGI and its resident monks are supported by the kind donations of its members, visitors, volunteers, and local benefactors. All donations are tax deducible.
